What Do You Need to Get a Real ID in Oregon?

Real ID is a state-issued driver’s license, instruction permit, or ID card that meets the federal requirements imposed by the Real ID Act. The state of Oregon offers both a standard card and a Real ID Act-compliant card.
Both the standard cards and Real ID cards allow you to legally drive and authenticate identification and age for activities such as cashing a check.
Oregon Real ID Requirements
Use this guide to identify the documents you need to bring to DMV when applying for a Real ID driver’s license or ID card. These required documents must either be originals or certified copies; electronic or photocopies are not acceptable.
Proof of Identity
You must provide/submit any of the following documents, which must be unexpired.
- U.S. passport card or U.S. passport
- U.S. birth certificate (must be issued by a local or state government)
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad
- Permanent Resident Card
- Employment Authorization Card
- Foreign Passport with U.S. visa and valid DHS-issued I-94
Proof of Name
If your full name is not listed on the identity document you submit, you must also present one of the following Oregon Real ID required documents that show your true full name:
- Oregon instruction permit, driver’s license, or identification card (expired no more than one year)
- Out-of-state driver’s license (expired no more than one year)
- Tribal ID card issued by a recognized tribe affiliated with Oregon or located in it, approved by DMV
- Concealed Handgun License (CHL)
- Canadian issued birth certificate
- Common Access Card (CAC), Military ID card, Uniform Service ID (USID) and Privilege card, and
- Marriage license or certificate, among others
Proof of Address
You must submit two documents showing your current Oregon residential address and name, and they must come from two different sources.
Each Oregon Real ID required documents you submit must contain your residence’s physical address and must come from a government agency or verifiable business. Further, the documents cannot include any alterations like erasures or crossed-out information and cannot have a forwarding address label or sticker.
Submit two of the following Oregon Real ID requirements:
- Oregon instruction permit, driver’s license, or identification card (expired no more than one year)
- Any item delivered by a known courier service sent by a government agency or verifiable business
- A financial institution-issued document that includes your address
- Utility statement or utility hook-up order issued by the provider
- Rental or lease agreement
- Selective Service card
- Voter profile report or Oregon voter notification card
- Education institution-issued document
- Paycheck or pay stub
- 1099 tax or W-2 form, and
- Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS), among others
Schedule an Appointment
After gathering the required documents, the next step is to schedule an appointment at https://dmv2u.oregon.gov/ or visit a DMV office.
When you visit the DMV, bring all the required Oregon Real ID requirements as proof of identity, date of birth, name, and address.
Lastly, bring an additional $30 for the Real ID charge, in addition to any other applicable fees.
