Maine Birth Certificates From Maine Data, Research, and Vital Statistics (DRVS) Office

Maine Birth Certificate Types

  • Certified Birth Certificate – Certified copies of birth certificates that may be used for practically all legal purposes, including proof of citizenship, school enrollment, personal identification, passports, social security, and employment.
  • Non-certified Birth Certificate – Non-certified copies of birth certificates will cost less, and will likely not be acceptable for most legal purposes. It may qualify as proof of personal identification and school enrollment, but not much more than that. These copies will be stamped “not for legal purposes.”
